CANARY WHARF

Copy on front page left reads as follows:

"This is an emergency edition of the Daily Telegraph. At 8.30 last night security men at Canary Wharf, in London's Docklands, where the newspaper is produced, spotted a van parked suspiciously. As they approached the van, two men emerged and brandished weapons. They then ran off.

The Canary Wharf Tower was immediately evacuated, and the whole of the area was cleared. At about 11pm police performed a controlled explosion on the van, but it was suspected that the vehicle contained a large quantity of explosives.

Unfortunately we were not able to produce the newspaper as planned. In this issue, many regular pages are missing and some do not appear in the usual order. We apologise to our readers and advertisers."
