PAINTINGS
In 2009, Sarah my wife bought me a set of brushes some oil paints and a few large canvases. I'd always said that I'd like to start painting again when I retired, but she thought why wait?
My favourite theme is the beach and clouds, all of them painted pretty much from out of my head, but as a result of years of looking, making mental notes and storing for future reference.
I love the sheer drama that an open space brings, the light, texture, tone, colour and scale.
Some of my work is purely experimental, the BLUE FLOWERS for example being just one, others like the STORM OVER CITY, were just seeing what texture I could create from using a simple bit of tissue and loads of paint.
All my work is on DEEP EDGED canvas, the best but by no means the most expensive being LOXLEY'S GOLD series. I cover the sides with masking tape to retain a clean white side so that you can simply hang it as it is. Clean and simple.
